They built the base in Athens, Georgia, while attending the University of Georgia, and recorded their debut album, Give 'em All a Big Fat Lip, on the well known shoestring budget. Pretty soon the trio—Parker Gispert, vocals, guitar; Hank Sullivant, bass; Julian Dorio, drums—started gathering accolades.

Last year Rolling Stone named them on of their "10 Artists To Watch." Critics who've been listening as well as watching report the band on the verge of major breakout. Said Harp magazine, "The Whigs recall the halcyon days of alt-country, when bands brought a punk
roar to timeless, meat-and-potatoes songwriting." Relix magazine added, "The Whigs will
be the next Athens band to leave a huge musical footprint." And Esquire named Julian
Dorio "Drummer of the Year" for 2007.

The Whigs debut disk for ATO Records is due in early '08.
